The people

Four generations of our family has been entwined with the red sands and white Ghost Gums of Noonbah.
We all feel profoundly fortunate to live on this land, and we wear our obligation for its custodianship with quiet pride.
Our family’s tenure here is but a short breath when compared to more than 1,000 generations of Aboriginal custodianship… we acknowledge the traditional Maiawali owners of this land with great respect.

Angus, head of operations for our busy beef cattle property, has lived here at Noonbah all his life.  While his passion for all sorts of critters, especially the reptilian kind, gave his mother grey hair, it means life at Noonbah is never dull.
Because of Angus’ deep knowledge of the land and its creatures, many universities, museums and individual scientists regularly visit, and base their research here.
Angus has identified many new species and subspecies, and has even had a few named after him.  If you’d like a closer interaction with the nature of Noonbah, Angus is your guide.

Angus co-authored Snakes of Western Queensland and Frogs of the Lake Eyre Basin, and has contributed to many publications.  On Australia Day 2017, Angus was honoured with an OAM (Medal of the Order of Australia) for service to conservation and the environment.
Karen is the grease that keeps the wheels turning: running the household, catering for copious guests, coping with freezers full of dead birds, mammals and reptiles, doing the bookwork for the business and helping out on the property.
After giving up her rural nursing career for property life, Karen raised two children, teaching them through School of Distance Education for 12 years.  Since then, she has focused her spare time on lobbying and advocating for health services for the bush.
During the recent, long drought, Karen was dismayed that a lot of media coverage only focused on the doom and gloom of rural life… she decided to start a Facebook page focusing on Noonbah to show that life on the land is interesting, diverse and full of small delights, despite the series of poor seasons.
Her vignettes of daily life in the bush, incorporating her husband’s stunning images, have garnered an international audience of thousands.
Check it out here.

Amelia has a degree in Tourism and Events and, although not living at home, is our adviser and media manager. She tells us when we are being daggy and helps keep everything fresh and fun.
Fergus studied at the Longreach Pastoral College after boarding school, and now works here at home. He loves travel and has explored the USA and Europe extensively, 'researching' tourism operations.  A good bloke to talk to for Longreach dining and nightlife options.
... and then there's Roo, our trainee administration assistant.
